Dita Lancier is Dita's sport-luxury sub-line, built on the idea of Land, Sea and Air — the same frame offered with lenses tuned for a different environment, and temples you can swap for ear-wrapping arms when the frame has to stay on. We can show you the Lancier collection or order from it at 342 Oxford Street, Paddington, ten minutes from the Sydney CBD.

Where Lancier came from

Dita launched Lancier in 2010 as a strictly limited collection — a handful of designs, fifty pairs of each — and brought it back the following year with two new frames alongside the original three. The organising idea has not changed since: each design is offered in versions whose lenses are chosen for land, for water and for altitude, so the same frame can be specified as a driving glass, a fishing glass or something you wear at speed with glare coming off cloud.

The kit was part of the point. Early Lanciers came with a second set of ear-wrapping temple arms and a quick-change temple system, a distressed leather case with a suede lining and a belt loop, a cloth and a small titanium screwdriver, all boxed together. The current LSA-referenced collection carries the same intent in a more contemporary shape.

Materials and construction

Lancier is built to the same standard as the rest of Dita — made in Sabae, Japan, titanium where the structure needs to be stiff and light, acetate where the frame meets the face, and hardware finished by hand. What is different is the priority: grip and retention come before decoration. Nose pads and temple tips are cut to hold when you are warm, the fronts are curved further than the dress models to close the gap at the temple, and the lenses are thicker and more heavily coated than a fashion sunglass needs to be.

Colourways run darker and more technical than the main line — matte titanium, black, gunmetal, olive and khaki tones, with polarised and mirrored lens options depending on the reference.

Who it suits, and stock

Lancier suits people who want a frame that behaves like sports eyewear without looking like it: sailing, driving, golf, long days outdoors, and anyone whose sunglasses currently slide down a nose by mid-morning. Because the fit is deliberately snug, it wants adjusting properly — we will set the pads and the temple bend on your head, and swap to the wrapping arms if you want them.

Runs are small, and Lancier has always been a limited line rather than a permanent catalogue. Ring us on 02 9331 4650 with the reference and we will check the cabinet and the current order book.

Questions about the Dita Lancier

Can Dita Lancier sunglasses take prescription lenses?

On most references, yes, though the curve of a wrapped sport front limits how strong a prescription can go in before the optics suffer. We edge lenses in store and will tell you before you buy whether your script works in the frame you like or whether a flatter Dita model is the better answer.

Is Lancier different from the ordinary Dita range?

Yes. Lancier is the sport-luxury sub-line, with lenses tuned for land, sea or air, more wrap in the front, grippier pads and temple tips, and on the original releases a second set of ear-wrapping arms on a quick-change system. The dress models such as the Mach series are built for looks first.

Do you have Lancier in stock in Sydney?

It comes and goes — the line has always been produced in small numbers. Ring us with the reference or a description and we will check what is at 342 Oxford Street and what can still be ordered, and hold a frame for you if you are travelling in to see it.
